MISSION STATEMENT

   The Washington Island Community Health Program (WICHP) seeks to empower and support Washington Island residents across generations to make informed choices for a successful, healthy, safe and independent lifestyle. WICHP establishes links between Island residents and service providers not available on Washington Island.

CODE OF CONDUCT STATEMENT

   In pursuit of its Mission, WICHP is guided by its Code of Conduct for all board members, volunteers, service partners and staff, based upon the following principles:

  • Commitment to the public good;
  • Accountability to the public;
  • Commitment beyond the law;
  • Respect for the worth and dignity of individuals;
  • Inclusiveness and social justice;
  • Respect for pluralism and diversity;
  • Transparency, integrity and honesty;
  • Responsible stewardship of resources; and,
  • Commitment to excellence and to maintaining the public trust.
   All board members, volunteers, service partners and staff of WICHP act with honesty, integrity and transparency in all their dealings with each other and as representatives of WICHP, as WICHP promotes a working environment that values respect, fairness, integrity and collaboration.

Non-Discrimination Policy Statement

   WICHP is an equal opportunity non-profit organization and shall not discriminate as to race, creed, religion, color, gender, gender identity/expression, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, political belief, age [40 or older], physical or mental disability, marital status, pregnancy, medical condition, genetic information (family medical history) sexual orientation, or [military] status regarding public assistance in any practice including, but not limited to, practices relating to providing services, volunteer recruitment, employment, training, promotion and the termination of personnel and volunteers. Washington Island Community Health Program will comply with all applicable laws governing equal opportunity employment and affirmative action.
   WICHP shall provide reasonable accommodations, on a case-by-case basis, to individuals who require such accommodations for medical or religious reasons, as required by law.

Non-Harassment Policy Statement

   In providing public assistance services, it is the policy of WICHP that harassment based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, disability, age (40 or older) or genetic information (including family medical history) is illegal and will not be tolerated. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, name-calling or epithets, offensive jokes, slurs, threats or physical attacks, displeasing photos or objects, or interference with individuals’ ability to execute their tasks.
   Reports of discrimination or harassment by WICHP Board members, volunteers or administrative staff shall receive a prompt, thorough and impartial investigation by an ad hoc committee of non-WICHP members, formulated for the purpose of conducting such an investigation. WICHP shall accept the outcome of such investigation and take such corrective action as is recommended by the impartial ad hoc committee.

   WICHP embraces diversity and equality in a serious way. We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills and views.
